Subject/Title of Window: Book of Gospels

Brief Description of Subject: Fifth of 7 panels by Dirk Thompson III that are designed to let light into the choir loft and to be consistent in design with the nave windows.

The medallion in the center contains a lit candle illuminating the Book of Gospels. I believe the book seen is the "Book of Gospels" as the outer panels of the seven contain the symbols of the gospel writers. The lit candle symbolizes the presence of God. There are many possible explanations for the lit candle and the Book of Gospels together, I chose this one. All scriptures are the word of God however the Gospels have always had a special place. The high point of the Liturgy of the Word in the Catholic Mass is the reading of a gospel from the Book of Gospels. In days of yore, it was customary in taking the Book of Gospels from the altar to the ambo to accompany it with a lit candle.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
