Subject/Title of Window: St. Peter

Brief Description of Subject: This window was designed for this parish's Gothic styled church which opened in 1926. Subsequently the congregation needed a larger church and replaced this Church with a modern styled church which opened in 1957,  and moved the stained glass windows to this new Church. This window is now located on the second level of the facade, which features the Apostles.

This is the "St. Peter Window," and is bordered with geometric patterns as well as pictures of boats, animals, angels, building, et alia.

The top level depicts an angel holding a shield with two keys. This attribute of Peter comes from Matthew 16:13 - 20 --- "Peter's Confession of Christ." Jesus asked Peter, "Who do you think I am?" Peter replied that Jesus was the Messiah, the Annointed One. Jesus then gave him the keys of the kingdom to Heaven (gold key) and Earth (silver key).

Below this is the figure of St. Peter depicted holding the key to heaven (gold) and the key to earth (silver), and a book which references he was a writer of two Epistles as well as preached the Word of God. At his feet is a rooster. This attribute of Peter comes from the story of Peter's denial of Jesus. In John 13:37 -38, Peter claimed he would lay down his life for the Lord, but Jesus responded, "I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times," NIV. In John 18, Peter denies knowing Jesus three times, at the moment of the third denial, a rooster crowed. Above Peter's head is a scene with Christ walking on water and Peter sinking. This comes from Matthew 14:22 - 33 --- "Jesus Walks on Eater." The disciples were in a boat on the water and Jesus began walking on the water to join them. Peter asked Jesus if he could also walk on water. Jesus told him to join him. Peter was able to walk on the water for a short distance when he became scared and began sinking. Jesus told him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" Verse 31 NIV

Below the figure is the inscription, "St. Peter," and a memorial inscription that reads, "In loving memory [of] Elizabeth A. Wilkins [and] to the glory of God." Church records indicate this was a gift from her daughter, Mrs David W. Burke, and dedicated May 16, 1943.
