Subject/Title of Window: Morning Star

Brief Description of Subject: This clerestory window is one of 17 illuminating titles for the Virgin Mary found in the Litany of Loreto. The title illustrated on this window is "Morning Star."
St. John Paul II in his Redemtoris Mater writes on the Virgin Mary as the Morning Star:
The Church has constantly been aware that Mary appeared on the horizon of salvation history before Christ. ... Therefore, if to ancient historical expectation of the Savior we compare these years which are bringing us closer to the end of the second Millennium after Christ to the beginning of the third, it becomes fully comprehensible that in this period we wish to turn in a special way to her, the one who in the "night" of the Advent expectation began to shine like a true "Morning Star" (Stella Matutina). For just as the star , together with the "dawn," precedes the rising of the sun, so Mary from the time of the Immaculate Conception preceded the coming of the Savior, the rising of the "Sun of Justice" in the history of the human race.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
