Brief Description of Subject: In September of 1906 Theodore W. Koch, Librarian, gave four stained glass windows by Nicola D'Ascenzo to the Library. This window was made as a memorial to Edward Lorraine Walter, a distinguished faculty member who was lost at sea on the French steamer La Bourgogne. This window now hangs in the North Hatcher second floor corridor at the entrace to the Reading Room.
D'Ascenzo, born in Toricella, Italy in 1871, came to the U.S. in 1882. He created windows for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, National Cathedral, and the west window of Princeton University Chapel. D'Ascenzo was presented with the gold medal award from the New York Architectural League.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
