Subject/Title of Window: The Transfiguration

Brief Description of Subject: Wells-Barnum Memorial Window. It illustrates an event related in the Book of Matthew, Ch. 17:1-6, when Jesus went up a mountain with his disciples Peter, James and John. There the disciples witnessed him glowing with heavenly radiance, with Moses, representing the law, and Elijah, representing the prophets, standing on either side.

Jesus transfigured on the mountain. Near Jesus are three disciples, Peter, James, and John. Moses represents the law. He wrote the Pentateuch. Elijah represents the prophets who foretold the Coming of the Messiah.

The Transfiguration is celebrated on August 6.

Inscriptions: This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased
