Jesus Knocking at the Door
This window is a fine example of many windows that depict Jesus knocking at the door, a favorite subject for ecclesiastical stained glass. The theme is based on a biblical text in which Jesus is quoted as saying, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock." Various artists have painted the scene, including 19th-century English artist William Holman Hunt, whose popular painting, "The Light of the World," probably inspired this interpretation in stained glass.
Trinity Episcopal Church was completed in 1913. Its opalescent glass windows were made by the John J. Kinsella Studios of Chicago. This window was given in memory of George and Catherine Brown by their son, David H. Brown.
Trinity Episcopal Church of Grand Ledge was registered in the Michigan Stained Glass Census by Kay and Dick Cypher of Grand Ledge.
